3. I got this article from Fox News.

4. There is going to be another flood threat this weekend throughout Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. There is expected to be 1-4 inches of rainfall. The cause of this rain is not supposed to be related Patricia.

5. This affects me because this weekend is a big weekend for me. Sunday I along with many band members will be departing for the trip to San Antonio. This has me concerned because the rain can interfere with loading things. Also, if it rains hard enough the trip could become dangerous. I hope the weather is in our favor.

6. This doesn’t really affect the world, but it does affect the southern US. It will interfere with many things. Some football games are possibly going to be cancelled due to the weather. The ship was carrying 28 Americans and five Polish crew members.

5.  This doesn’t affect me very much. It does make me sad that people died. It also makes me feel more concerned about boats. But, I like to fish and tube so I will probably get over it. Hurricanes really scare me so it is hard for me to imagine dying because of   one.

6.  This does affect the world. I have a feeling that this event may cause some debate. People will probably start taking more precautions with storms. Also, I’m sure the investigation to find out what exactly happened will continue for a while. I think that staying on route will be more enforced for cargo ships from now on.

I like this one because it is funny and relatable. It is simple and not what I expected for her to be digging through the trash for.

Computer Rental Story

In response to a recent drugs and alcohol survey taken by students that had less-than-favorable results, Principal Weeton will be holding a drug and alcohol awareness forum on Thursday, March 12.

Drug and alcohol use has become fairly common amongst the high school students nowadays; however, many parents have remained blind to it. The meeting will open the parent’s eyes to the rampant use of such substances.

“I was shocked by the survey results,” Robert Deadmon, a parent of a junior, said. “This meeting is going to be a wake-up call for parents. We’ve had our blinders on for too long.”

After a series of speakers such as former addicts, ambulance workers, etc. that talked with the students, some kids are feeling the heat and are even setting their own restrictions about what they should and shouldn’t do.

“A few of them [speakers] scared me pretty bad,” junior Robert Earl said. “I am not saying I will never drink again, but I think I will be more responsible.

Additionally, the principal urgently wants the parents to know the danger their kids are in, which most parents seem to currently be oblivious to.

“In the past, I think we brushed the problem under the rug,” principal David Weeton said. “We can’t do that anymore. We’ve been lucky that none of our kids have been killed in drunken driving accidents or overdoses, but I am afraid if we don’t act, our luck is going to run out.

3.  I got this article from Fox News.

5.  This event interests me.  I knew snacking so much probably wasn’t health, but I was surprised.  I normally do not eat until lunchtime and then snack from after school until nighttime.  Now I realize that my eating patterns are unhealthy.  Maybe I will change it up now.

6.  This event effects the world in a couple of ways.  Many people skip a meal or two a day.  In addition, many people eat many snacks throughout the day.  This could be a factor in causing people to become overweight.  Regulating meal times could possibly help people with health conditions.

Current Events Assignment

1.  The topic of my article is energy drinks affect on teens.

2.  The title of my article is: Energy drinks tied to brain damage in teens.

3.  I got this article from Fox News.

4.  Energy drinks are many teenagers method of staying up to cram in one last hour of studying.  Research is now showing that the effects of energy drinks are more harmful than people think.  Studies show that energy drinks are tied to TBI’s. A TBI is a traumatic brain injury.  Energy drinks make the risk of getting a TBI 5 times greater and can make it more difficult to recover from a TBI.

5.  This news makes me worried. I personally don’t normally drink energy drinks but some of my friends drink them frequently. I have heard energy drinks are bad for children and teens but I didn’t realize how much of an impact they can have.  I am going to be careful about my energy drink consumption now.  Hopefully, more people will realize the negative affect energy drinks can have.

6.  This event impacts the world because energy drinks could potentially be deadly. Many teens in developed countries drink energy drinks and do not realize the possible consequences. Teens could die because of energy drinks and never know what caused it.  This is especially dangerous for teens who play sports, because of the increase in chances of getting a head injury.  Energy drinks aren’t something to be banned, but the risks they have should be better advertised so people are more aware.
